New Delhi/ Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, died here early on Thursday following mutliple organ failure, hospital and family sources said. He was 79.
His condition worsened and he was put on ventilator support on Wednesday. Since then, he was in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of AIIMS and suddenly his platelets dropped low.
He was detected with sepsis, decreased blood counts and pneumonia, was admitted to the hospital on December 24, with complains of neck pain and fever.
Sayeed took over as chief minister of PDP-BJP coalition on March 1, 2015.
Sayeed had said last November during a press conference in Jammu that he would like to hand over the reins to his daughter Mehbooba Mufti.
