As the first drops of rain fall on the parched soil, the smell enthralls us to an extent where we almost go high with it. What if I tell you, you can keep it with you forever in a bottle? No matter how impossible it sounds, it has already been done.
Making mitti attar is long process.
Mitti Attar is prepared in Kannauj. Mud in huge quantity is baked as cakes. They are baked in closed copper vessel so as to vaporise the residual moisture.
Then the hydro-distillation process is carried out for about 45 days. After the distillation process, the residue is collected in sandalwood oil which is a base for all attar.
Apart from perfume, it used as an essential oil in aromatherapy
and also as an air freshener.
