Tokyo: Tokyo stocks advanced on Monday morning, as a rise in oil prices, the US shares rallying and hopes for more easing measures by the central bank here bolstered investor sentiment.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average climbed 235.87 points, or 1.39 percent, from Friday to 17,194.40.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, added 23.17 points, or 1.69 percent, to end the morning at 1,397.36.

By the morning break all categories on the main section moved into positive territory, with food, mining, and iron and steel-linked shares comprising notable advancers. (IANS)
