Bollywood has an eternal connection with our railways. Over the years, trains have been an integral part of the stories where the whole action takes place, all this would not have been possible if trains were not introduced in India. Let us recall those moments when Bollywood movies gained advantage from railways that started their journey in India on the day of 16th April, 1853, when the very first passenger train travelled from Bombay’s Bori Bandar to Thane. From emotion to action, trains have adorned movies and entertained people. So, here are some of the best moments where Bollywood movies rolled on the engines of trains.
1. The Burning Train
The name itself speaks about the movie that wouldn’t be possible without a train because the entire story is shot inside a train. It is an action thriller where all characters scuffle in a burning train to survive.
2. Sholay
The classic fighting scene between
Jai, Veeru and
Thakur from the cult movie Sholay was something that you can watch again and again. The beauty of the train here is that it takes you along.
3. Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge
This was the ultimate romantic movie in the history of Indian Cinema and not even a ‘
No Shahrukh fan’ can forget the climax where the train becomes
Kajol ki doli.
DDLJ is one movie where a story starts from a train and ends on the train.
4. Gadar
This movie which portrayed the real story of India Pakistan partition where trains were the medium of survival and death for the people. During partition, railways actually became the lifeline of the people.
5. Life in a Metro
Here, the word Metro is used a metaphor to describe the lives of the people living in the metropolitan cities. Their lives run at the same pace like locals (Suburban trains) - it is swift with over-crowded emotions and always busy.
6. Jab We Met
‘
Thank you babaji, apne mera record todne se bacha liya’. How can we forget this dialogue, just for the simple reason that we too have missed many trains in our lives. If not, then you should watch this flick again, just for scenes where Kareena takes you along in different trains!
7. Ra One
The first action movie of Shahrukh Khan where he played a superhero and had an amazing action scene on a running train. How could he stop the super fast train with no breaks, if he weren’t a superhero!
8. Chennai Express
Here, we come again where the movie stars with the train going to Chennai. Long yet drooling train journey from New Delhi to Chennai wouldn’t be possible if there were no railways.
9. Ye Jawani Hai Deewani
Inspired from the opening scenes of
Dil Wale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, the movie was entertaining that took you to Manali via train. It was a delightful movie to watch how train journeys can be a real fun with your friends.
10. Dil Se
Everybody has atleast once danced on this foot tapping track of Sharukh and Malaika. And what’s the speciality of this song? The ‘
chuk chuk’ sounds steering along with dance on the running train.
