The capital city is different in its own terms. The settlers’ city has a vivid culture which can be very absurd to a newcomer. It sinks in gradually; may be. I do not know that yet.
Two months in Delhi, I have observed a few things which quite normal here but not to a newcomer.
1.The Universal Greeting Message
Here, people won’t greet you with a ‘Hi’ or ‘Hello’. Their expression of greeting, joy, sorrow and anger comes out in the form of a single word, “B*******d”. Oh! You got it right. Now you know why it’s Virat Kohli’s favourite word.
Point to be noted, it’s not something offensive. It’s as normal as your ‘Hi’ or ‘Hello’
2. Baap Bada Na Bhaiya Sabse Bada Rupaiya
From shopkeepers to rickshawalas no one cares about the condition of the note you give them. “Note” is all that matters. It can be half torn, almost unusable but it’s absolutely okay. No one grumbles about it. Are you wondering about the coins? Oh! they don’t use them. They almost stopped using it, they’ll neither give you two or three rupees change nor will they ask for it. Ending the problem of shortage of “Chillars”.
3. Down To Earth (Floor, I Mean)
I cannot assure you about the “air” being clean but metros, it will give you a different feel for sure. Just that, I do not get the idea of sitting on the floor of the metros and the stations. Why would you? I understand it looks clean but you yourself stepped in it with your muddy/dusty shoes. And why on earth would you like to spoil your Tommy Hilfiger jeans?
4. You Can Afford To Forget Your Purse But Not Your Smart Phone With “Google Maps”
Trust me, Google maps will be your best friend here. If you ask people for directions, their reaction will be like
5. Why Should People With Spare Time Have All The Fun?
This one is my favourite. You’ll find people reading, watching movies, knitting sweaters and what not while they are traveling in metros and buses. Their dedication is high enough to continue their hobbies even in a crowded metro/bus.
