US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo Wednesday arrived in Baghdad on a surprise visit to meet Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.
Local media said Pompeo also met other Iraqi officials, including the speaker of parliament Muhammad Al Halbusi.
The US Secretary of State's visit to Baghdad is part of his West Asia tour.
Mr. Pompeo plans to reassure allies about America's commitment to the region despite US President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw troops from Syria.
Pompeo's visit comes less than two weeks after Trump drew criticism for failing to meet a single Iraqi official during a surprise Christmas visit to US troops. (AIR)
