Maharashtra to implement 10% EWS quota

As Lok Sabha elections are approaching the Maharashtra government has decided to implement 10 percent reservation for economically and weaker section in general category. The reservation is applicable in both educational institutions and government employment.

The development comes days after the parliament passed the legislation for enabling the states to give reservation to the economically and weaker section of general category and those family incomes is less than 8 lakhs are eligible for the reservation.

Maharashtra’s finance minister Sudhir Mungantiwar said, “We have decided to give 10% quota from any caste or religion in education and in jobs.” The quota will apply to jobs in government and semi-government establishments, municipal corporations, councils and local self government bodies.
