11 people killed in a bus accident in J&K's Poonch district; PM announces aid for kin

In Jammu and Kashmir, at least eleven people died and several others were injured after a bus they were traveling in met with an accident in Sawjian area of Poonch district today. AIR Jammu Correspondent reports that the bus carrying around 30 passengers from Mandi to Sawjian skidded off the road at Bareri Nallah and plunged into a deep gorge this morning.

Soon after the accident was reported a major rescue operation was launched by the army, police, and locals. So far, eleven bodies have been recovered from the accident site.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has announced an ex-gratia of five lakh rupees each for family members of the deceased. He also directed authorities to provide the best treatment to those injured.
