4 dead, 26 missing due to avalanche in Uttarakhand

In Uttarakhand, 4 people died and 26 others are missing due to an avalanche in Draupadi's Danda-2 mountain peak in Uttarkashi. District Magistrate Abhishek Ruhela said that the bodies of four people have been recovered and the rescue operation has been stopped for some time due to bad weather.

41 people including 34 trainees and 7 mountaineering instructors were hit by an avalanche, as per NIM. On the other hand, Rapid relief and rescue operations are being carried out by the district administration, NDRF, SDRF, Army and ITBP personnel along with the team of Nehru Mountaineering Institute to rescue the trapped trainees at the earliest.

Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence minister Raj Nath Singh have expressed anguish at the incident of an avalanche in Uttarkashi. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami requested Defense Minister Rajnath Singh to expedite the rescue operation by taking Army’s help. The Defence Minister has instructed the Airforce to join the rescue and relief operations and has assured the Chief Minister that all possible assistance will be provided by the Central Government.
