Anurag Singh Thakur to participate in panel discussion with Y20 delegates at IIT Guwahati tomorrow

The first Inception meeting of the Youth -20 Engagement Group under India's G20 presidency started today in Guwahati. Addressing media persons, Secretary (Youth Affairs), Ministery of Youth Affairs and Sports, Meeta Rajivlochan informed that Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports Anurag Singh Thakur will participate in a panel discussion with the Y20 delegates on the topic "Youth Dialogue with Your Minister" at IIT Guwahati tomorrow and will also launch a white paper on a concluding day.

The Secretary (Youth Affairs) said that the Y20 Engagement Group will organise discussions pan-India, to consult the youth of the nation on ideas for a better tomorrow and will draft an agenda for action. The Summit will provide a platform for youth to express their perspectives and ideas on G20 priorities.

In the runup to the Y-20 Inception meeting, discussions, debates, rallies, painting and quiz competitions were held at colleges and universities across the State on the Y-20 identified themes.

The Y20 themes are Future of Work: Industry 4.0, Innovation & 21st century; Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction: Making Sustainability as a Way of Life; Peace Building and Reconciliation: Ushering in an Era of No War; Shared Future: Youth in Democracy and Governance; Health, Wellbeing & Sports: Agenda for Youth.

More than 1500, including 250 nos foreign and Indian delegates, and 400 college students from Assam are participating in the Y20 Inception meeting.

Started in 2012, the Y20 is the youth version of the G20 Summits and it is the only officially recognized platform for young people to engage with the G20 it is one of the most influential international diplomatic forums for young leaders. It is also one of eight official engagement groups under the G20 umbrella. The G20 rotating presidency bears the responsibility of hosting the youth summit, which usually takes place some weeks prior to the traditional forum to know what the youths are thinking and incorporate their suggestions in their own policy proposals. It is an attempt to create a connecting point between G20 governments and their local youth.
