Assam to appoint third party agency to study tea industry problems

The Assam Government has decided to appoint a third party agency to study the problems of the tea industry.

Talking to newspersons in Guwahati yesterday, Assam Industry and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary said, the third party agency would find out the reasons behind why Assam tea is not able to compete in the international market.

He said that the proposed, agency could be a management institute or any other top agency. He said the industry had to move away from Crush-Tear-Curl (CTC) style tea and venture into teas like green and yellow tea.

Mr. Patowary also said that the Assam Government would also set up a sub-committee to look into various problems of the tea industry. Assam is known as one of the highest and quality tea producing state of the world.
