Australia beat India by 34 runs to win 1st ODI

Australia have won the first One-day International of the three-match series.

In Sydney today, chasing a target of 289 runs, India made 254 runs losing nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs. Rohit Sharma made a superb 133.

M.S. Dhoni scored 51. Bhuvneshwar Kumar contributed 29.

Earlier electing to bat, Australia posted a challenging 288 for five. Peter Handscomb top-scored for the hosts with his 73-run knock while Usman Khwaja 59 and Shaun Marsh 54 also scored half-centuries. Marcus Stoinis remained unbeaten on 47.

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav and pacer Bhuvneshar Kumar took wickets apiece and Ravindra Jadeja one for India. The second ODI will be played in Adelaide on the 15th of this month.

Jhye Richardson of Australia, who claimed four wickets giving only 26 runs in 10 overs, was declared Player of the Match. (AIR)
