Australian opposition leader Bill Shorten concedes defeat

Australian opposition leader Bill Shorten has conceded defeat after his Labour party suffered a shock defeat in national polls today saying he would resign as party leader.

He told his supporters in Melbourne that Labour party will not be able to form the next government. He said, in the national interest, he called Liberal leader and Prime Minister Scott Morrision a short while ago to congratulate him.

Meanwhile, Mr Morrison praised his countrymen for delivering his party a miracle election victory after his Labour challenger conceded defeat. Mr Morrison had entered the election as an underdog, but after a hard-fought campaign defied the odds to extend the Liberal-National coalition's six-year rule. (AIR NEWS)
