A special judge holding trial in the demolition case of a disputed structure at Ayodhya moved the Supreme Court today seeking six more months to conclude the trial.

The special judge, in a letter written, has informed the apex court that he is due to superannuate on September 30 this year. The matter came up for hearing today before a bench headed by Justice RF Nariman.

The bench asked the Uttar Pradesh government to apprise it by Friday about a mechanism by which the tenure of the special judge could be extended till he delivers the verdict.

In April, 2017, the top court had ordered a day-to-day trial to be concluded in two years in the case. (AIR NEWS)
