In the midst of surging cases of COVID-19, the government of Bangladesh has extended the ongoing nationwide lockdown till 28 April. The Cabinet division in its notification issued on Tuesday said that all the previous restrictions will continue to be in force till April 28. The current lockdown which started on April 14 is coming to a close on the midnight of April 21. The government has taken the step based on the recommendation of the National Technical Advisory Committee on COVID 19.

All public transport including roads, railways, waterways and flight will remain suspended except for the special flights and freight services permitted by the government. Offices will not function during this period. Industries will be allowed to operate by maintaining health guidelines. People are not allowed to move out of their homes except in case of emergency or essential purchases. Shops are closed but those selling items of daily use and kitchen markets in the city will function for limited hours during the day time.

The Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) Mohammad Mofidur Rahman told the media on Tuesday that domestic flights will resume on a limited scale from Wednesday.
