Basavaraj S Bommai takes oath as Chief Minister of Karnataka

Karnataka Governor Thawarchand Gehlot administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new Chief Minister of the state Basavaraj Bommai in Rajbhavan today. He succeeds BJP tall leader B S Yediyurappa who resigned on July 26th after tenure of two years. Mr.Bommai was chosen the BJP legislative party leader yesterday in the presence of Central party observers and Union Ministers Dharmendra Pradhan and Kishan Reddy.

Basavaraj Bommai is the three times MLA from Shegaon in Haveri district in North Karnataka and was the Home minister and Parliamentary Affairs minister in the Yediyurappa cabinet. Considered a close confidant of Yediyurappa, Bommai joined BJP in 2008 and served as Water Resources minister between 2008 and 2013. A mechanical engineer, Bommai is son of former Chief Minister S R Bommai who was in office between 1988 and 1989.

After assuming charge, the new Chief Minister has called a meeting of officials to discuss the flood and Covid situation in the state. AIR Bengaluru correspondent adds that the new Chief Minister is also likely to hold meeting with party leaders to discuss the names of legislators who could be inducted into the Cabinet. (AIR NEWS)
