BJP sweeps Leh Hill Council polls with a margin of 427 vote

Bharatiya Janata Party has won the Councilor bye-election for Martselang constituency of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council of Leh with a margin of 427 votes.

Stanzin Chospel of BJP got 1,300 votes whereas his nearest rival independent candidate Rinchen Gourmet got 873 votes. INC candidate Tashi Nurboo Jayo got 316 votes of a total of 2,541 votes. Martselang constituency went for bye-election following incumbent Jamyang Tsering Namgyal's election as Ladakh MP.

The bye-election has become a test for BJP especially, for sitting MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal as villages were divided over the selection of candidates. The LAHDC, Leh has less than a year's tenure to go for the elections.

After the declaration of the winner, MP Jamyang thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah for granting UT to Ladakh and the people of Martselang of Leh for giving the opportunity to thank the leadership. (AIR NEWS)
