Both Houses of Parliament adjourned; uproar continues over Joint Parliamentary Committee

Proceedings of both Houses of Parliament have been marred by disruptions over the Joint Parliamentary Committee probe into the Adani Group matter and other issues on Wednesday. This is the twelfth consecutive day of the second leg of the Budget Session when both Houses of Parliament witnessed a logjam. Amid the ruckus, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha adjourned for the day. The two Houses will meet again on the third of next month.

In the Lok Sabha, when the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 12 Noon, opposition members including Congress, DMK and others trooped into the well raising demand for a JPC probe. Other opposition members including TMC, JD(U), Shiv Sena (UBT) and others were on their feet. Amid the din, Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav introduced the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill 2023. He also moved The Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill 2022.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sithraman moved the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2022 which was passed by the House without discussion. Amid chaotic scenes, the Presiding Officer urged the agitating members to go back to their seats. It has been announced by the Chair that there will be no sitting of the House on the 31st of this month. Amid pandemonium, the Presiding Officer adjourned the House for the day. The next sitting of the House will be held on 3rd April. Earlier, when the Lok Sabha met this morning, opposition members including Congress, DMK and others trooped into the well raising demand for a JPC probe. The agitating members attired in black dresses raised slogans in the House. Amid the din, the Presiding Officer adjourned the House till 12 PM.

Similar scenes were witnessed in Rajya Sabha when the House reassembled after the first adjournment at 2 PM, and members of the Congress party again trooped into the well raising demand for a JPC probe. Treasury bench members also reiterated their demand seeking Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's apology for his remarks on Indian democracy.

Amid pandemonium, Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar adjourned the House for the day. Earlier, when the Upper House met for the day, members of the Congress party raised demands for a JPC probe. MPs of DMK, TMC, Left, Aam Aadmi Party and others were on their feet. Members from Congress, DMK were seen wearing black outfits to register their protest.
