Centre expediting free trade agreements with different countries, says Union Minister Piyush Goyal

Union Minister Piyush Goyal said the Centre is expediting free trade agreements with different countries. He inaugurated the Texfair expo on international textile machineries, accessories and services, organised by the Southern India Mills Association, in Coimbatore yesterday. Mr Piyush Goyal said the free trade agreements will help get zero duty access for Indian goods. He noted that the textile industry has huge potential to generate more and more jobs in India. He asked the textile industry to capture the markets across the globe.

Mr Piyush Goyal expressed the hope that India will become a 30-trillion dollar economy very soon. He said the Union Government is addressing all the structural issues including tariff barriers, taxation and global competitions to achieve the target. He asked all the stakeholders to work unitedly to make the nation the world’s largest manufacturing hub in the world.

The Minister lauded the spirit of entrepreneurship in Coimbatore and neighbouring knitwear city of Tirupur, especially in the fields of pump sets, textiles, wet grinders and critical components manufacturing. He said the Centre would help the Coimbatore-based South India Textiles Research Association SITRA’s efforts to manufacture quality uniforms for the defence personnel under the National Technical Textile Mission.

Mr Piyush Goyal appreciated the training of two lakh people in the state under the Textile Ministry’s flagship programme “Samarth,” which is aimed at capacity expansion in the sector. He said India has the capacity to become the second largest manufacturer of quality Personal Protection Equipment PPE kits in the world at affordable costs. He called upon the textile sector to aim for attaining self-sufficiency in the production of machineries, ginning and garmenting. (AIRNEWS)
