Cold wave conditions intensify in many parts of India

Cold wave conditions have intensified in many parts of India. In Himachal Pradesh, the plains of Una district remained colder than Shimla yesterday.

The Meteorological Department said the minimum temperature in the state capital was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius while it settled at 2.5 degrees Celsius in Una.

Manali was shivering at the freezing point. The MeT department has forecast snowfall and rains at most places in the state till tomorrow due to western disturbances.

Intense chill continued in Jammu and Kashmir, as the maximum temperature remained below normal at most places in the valley. A Meteorological department spokesman said yesterday, light rain and snow are predicted for the next four days, even as a fresh Western Disturbance is active in the state.

Meanwhile, control rooms have already been set up in view of the forecast for heavy snowfall. The world-famous health resort of Pahalgam was coldest in Kashmir. Gulmarg recorded minus 2.6 degrees, over 3 notches below the normal maximum temperature. There was no respite from chilly weather conditions in Ladakh region, where all the water bodies, including ponds and khuls, remained frozen, affecting the normal life.

An unabated cold wave continued in most parts of Punjab and Haryana with Adampur being the coldest place at 1.4 degrees Celsius. Dense fog was witnessed at several places in both states including Hisar and Ludhiana.

People in Telangana also shivered through another chilly day yesterday as most parts of the state remained in the firm grip of severe cold conditions due to north and northeasterly winds blowing across the state. Respite from the severe cold is not in sight in the near future as MeT department said that cold weather may continue for another 15-20 days. (AIR NEWS)
