EC withholds Lakshadweep Lok Sabha bypoll after Kerala HC suspends conviction

The Election Commission has withheld the Lakshadweep Lok Sabha bypoll and deferred the issuance of notification after Kerala High Court decision on sitting MP Mohammed Faizal. Last week, the High Court had suspended the conviction and sentence imposed on Faizal.

Earlier, the bye election in Lakshdweep was announced due to disqualification of Mohammed Faizal on the ground of conviction by the Court of Sessions, Kavaratti, Lakshadweep. The Election Commission had announced bye-election to Lakshdweep along with six Assembly Constituencies spread over five States on 18th of this month. (AIR NEWS)
