Egypt′s former President Mohammed Morsi dies in court

news

In Egypt, former president Mohammed Morsi died yesterday after collapsing during a session in court. State television reported that he was taken to a Cairo hospital but could not be revived.

Morsi, who was 67, was on trial for espionage and had just addressed the court when he blacked out. He was country's first democratically elected president and a member of Egypt's most powerful Islamist group, the now banned Muslim Brotherhood.

Morsi had been in custody since his removal by military after mass protests in 2013.
He was democratically elected in 2012, one year after the popular uprising that ended the rule of longtime leader Hosni Mubarak.

Meanwhile the Muslim Brotherhood blamed that the death was a full-fledged murder and called for crowds to gather at the funeral. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also blamed Egyptian rulers for the death of former president. (AIR NEWS)
