Elaborate arrangements made for counting of votes in Andaman & Nicobar Islands

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the counting of votes of the lone Lok Sabha constituency of Andaman and Nicobar Islands tomorrow.

The counting will start at 8 a.m tomorrow at the Counting Centre at Jawaharlal Nehru Rajkiya Mahavidyalaya in Port Blair.

Chief Electoral Officer of Andaman and Nicobar Islands Parliamentary Constituency K.R Meena told AIR that all arrangements have been put in place for the Counting Day. He said, the three tier security team has been deployed and 14 cameras have been installed in the strong room.

A total of 15 candidates are in the fray for the lone seat of Andaman and Nicobar Parliamentary Constituency.

The main contest is between the BJP and the Congress. The Congress has again fielded its state unit president Kuldeep Rai Sharma while the BJP has chosen its state president Vishal Jolly as candidate for the General Election.

Significantly, the three times sitting MP of the Constituency Bishnu Pada Rai did not get ticket this time. BSP, Trinamool Congress, Aam Admi Party have also fielded their own candidates. A total of nine independent candidates are also contesting the Election. One is a woman among the independent candidates.

In the Lok Sabha seat, a 64.85 percentage turnout was registered in the first phase of General Election held on April 11. Of which, a voter turnout of 70.69 was recorded in North and Middle Andaman, 61.73 percentage in South Andaman and 64.85 in Nicobar district. (AIR NEWS)
