Entire country to be covered with 5G services within two years

Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology Ashwini Vasihnaw has said that the Government is intended to cover the entire country with 5G services within two years.

He said, very soon 5G services will be launched in the country and an investment of around 35 billion US dollar or three lakh crore rupees will be made for the 5G service.

The Union Minister said this while addressing the two-day Arogya Manthan programme organised to celebrate four years of implementation of Ayushman -Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana( AB- PMJAY ) and one year of Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission ( ABDM). Mr Vaishnaw also said that health data is among the most sensitive data and stressed the need to create a robust regulatory framework in which anyone who shares data is assured that the data will be fully protected.

He added that the government is working for a very comprehensive digital legal framework. Mr Vaishnav said that to create a very robust data protection framework, the government has recently uploaded Indian Telecommunication Bill, 2022 for stakeholders's comments and it is also working on Digital Personal Data Protection Bill and Digital India Bill.

Communication and IT Minister also said that health and digital connectivity should go hand in hand to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He elaborated that in the last eight years, significant progress have been made in connectivity. He said, nearly one lakh 50 thousand villages are already connected with good high-quality fibre connectivity and to cover rest of the villages and investment of around one lakh 50 thousand core rupees will be made.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya said that the government is working with the vision of making healthcare accessible and affordable. He said AB-PMJAY has done away with the divide between the poor and rich as the poor patients can also get quality treatments in big hospitals.

He said, so far more than 19 crore Ayushman cards have been issued and work will be expedited to generate more cards. He said, today around 4.5 lakh Ayushman cards are being generated and his target is to generate 10 lakh cards a day. He said, out of the 1.5 lakh Health and Wellness Centres to be set up, more than one lakh 25 thousand such centres.

Minister of State for Health Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar said that AB- PMJAY is the world's largest health insurance scheme.

Dr V K Paul Member, Health Niti Aayog appealed to the States to join in the AB-PMJAY. Dr RS Sharma, CEO, National Health Authority also shared their views on the occasion. Mr Sharma said that Arogya Setu is now being repurposed as India's health application and CoWIN portal is being repurposed for the national immunisation program and as a health management information system for doctors.
