Goa Revolution Day is being celebrated today. On this day in 1946, freedom fighter Dr Ram Manohar Lohia had given a clarion call to Goans to fight for the state's liberation from Portuguese rule during a speech at Margao in South Goa.
The speech provided a fillip to the Goan liberation movement, with the state finally being liberated in 1961 after around 450 years of Portuguese rule.
At the state-level programme this morning, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant paid tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial, Azad Maidan in Panaji. He asked students to appreciate and draw inspiration from Goa’s liberation struggle.
The Chief Minister said the state government plans to set up a gallery in Panaji to highlight the struggles and achievements of Goa’s liberation movement through various media including films. (AIR NEWS)
