Howdy Modi: PM Modi calls for a decisive battle against terrorism, its sponsors

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a decisive battle against terrorism and its sponsors. Making a strong pitch against terrorism at the Howdy Modi event at Houston in the US tonight, Mr Modi said, India's decision to nullify Article 370 has caused trouble to those who cannot handle their country.

He was addressing the Indian diaspora in the presence of US President Donald Trump, who joined the mega event in a rare gesture of friendship. The Prime Minister said Article 370 was encouraging terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. He asserted that its nullification will allow development and prosperity in the region and end discrimination against women, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes.

In an apparent reference to Pakistan, Prime Minister Modi said that the people who cannot even manage their own country are harbouring terrorism and supporting terrorism. Mr Modi reiterated that US President Trump is standing solidly with the battle against terrorism.

Addressing the event, Mr Trump said, they are working to eradicate radical Islamic terrorism. He said, border security is vital to both America and India as he emphasized on bolstering further the Indo-US security relationship. Mr Trump praised Modi government's economic reforms and said these reforms have lifted nearly three hundred million people out of poverty.

Earlier, Prime Minister Modi introduced President Trump to the Indian-Americans at the mega event as a very special person whose presence at the event signals India has a true friend at the White House. It is for the first time that both the leaders shared a stage together and addressed a record crowd of 50,000 Indian-Americans.

Mr Modi said unity in diversity is the beauty of India and its democracy. The Prime Minister said India has been a liberal society for centuries. He was addressing the Indian diaspora at the Howdy Modi event at Houston tonight where US President Donald Trump joined him in a rare gesture.

Prime Minister Modi said the presence of US President Trump and all the senators talking about India's progress is a respect to the achievement of the 1.3 billion Indians.

The Howdy Modi event was organized by the Texas India Forum at NRG stadium. Teenage singing prodigy Sparsh Shah participated in the special cultural programme to reflect the US-India cultural ties at the ‘Howdy Modi!, Shared Dreams, Bright Futures’ community event.

The 90-minute programme, 'Woven: The Indian-American Story', had music, dance and multimedia show. The programme was prepared to celebrate the contributions the Indian-Americans have made in the United States.

Speaking about the event, Sparsh said, he is honoured and humbled to be invited to sing the Indian National Anthem in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and US President Trump.
