Incessant rainfall triggered landslides in many places in Meghalaya

In Meghalaya, incessant rainfall in past few days across the State has triggered landslides in many places while water in streams and rivers reached the danger level including Umkhrah River in Shillong city.

Landslides were reported in many places like Malki, Mawlai, Wahingdoh and many other areas. The continuous downpour also led to collapse of retaining walls and trees in different parts of the state because of loose soil. The retaining wall of the AG office at Motinagar had collapsed on the today early morning.

The district authorities of East Khasi Hills have urged the people to remain in view of the incessant rain. Government sources said that no casualty was reported from any part of the state. Till filing of the report, heavy downpour continued in the city.

A weather forecast by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at isolated places in Meghalaya on July 11 and 12, and heavy to heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls likely to occur on the July 10 and 13. (AIR NEWS)
