Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has said that a magisterial enquiry will be instituted to probe into the mob violence in Deverajeevanahalli and Kadugondanahalli in Bengaluru last night. Speaking to the media persons in Bengaluru today, Mr. Bommai said that the meeting headed by Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has decided to appoint a district magistrate to probe into the incident as per the guidelines issued by the Human Rights Commission.
He also said that 145 suspects related to the riots are taken into police custody. He said, the Government will recover the losses arising from damage to public property during the violence from rioters as per the directions of the Supreme Court. He has said that the situation is peaceful now and the state has sought additional forces from neigbouring states to maintain law and order. It is being reported that the riots and vandalism were the result of an objectionable Facebook post. Three people had died, several police personnel were injured and damage was caused to houses and vehicles during the violence. (AIR)
