The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has sent a notice to the Bihar Director General of Police over the death of a JD(U) leader in police custody, hours after he was picked up for interrogation in a kidnapping case.
The NHRC took suo moto cognisance of media reports that Ganesh Ravidas, who was detained by the Nalanda police, allegedly hanged himself inside the police station on Thursday night.
The Commission observed that the content of the news report, if true, amounted to a gross violation of the right to life. It has sought a detailed report in the matter within six weeks. (AIR NEWS)
