Nifty Touches New Peak, Sensex Closes Above 73,000 Mark


The key domestic indices closed today on a higher note as NSE Nifty touched a record new high and Sensex ended over 73,000 mark. In intra-day trade NSE Nifty crossed 22,210 points. Buying in banking stocks drove both the indices amid mixed cues from the global share markets.

The BSE Sensex gained 349 points, or half a percent, to finish at 73,057. The NSE Nifty rose 75 points, or 0.34 percent, to settle at 22,197.

In the broader market at the BSE, the Mid-Cap index fell 0.17 percent while the Small-cap index slipped 0.18 percent.

In the Sensex index, which is a pack of 30 companies, shares of 18 companies appreciated while those of 12 companies declined.

Power Grid climbed 4.2 percent and HDFC Bank gained 2.6 percent. Axis Bank rose 2.3 percent and NTPC added two percent.

On the other hand, TCS declined 1.8 percent. Bajaj Finserv and JSW Steel both fell one percent. Infosys slipped 0.9 percent.

In sectoral indices at the BSE, 11 sector registered gains, while nine witnessed losses. Bankex sector gained 1.2 percent and Reality index rose 1.1 percent. Financial Services advanced 0.9 percent and Power sector added 0.8 percent.

On the other side, Information Technology sector lost 0.9 percent, Auto slipped 0.8 percent and Metal fell 0.7 percent.

The overall Market breadth was positive, as the shares of 1,949 companies advanced while those of 1,887 companies declined. A total of 95 companies remain unchanged. (AIR NEWS)
