The North-East monsoon has intensified in 15 districts of Tamil Nadu including Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Sivagangai, and Pudukottai. Heavy rains have been predicted today in seven districts including Nilgiris, Dindigul, Theni, Kovai, etc.
Traffic on the Hill highway, near Aruvankadu, where the Central Ordnance factory functions, has been affected because of fallen trees. The services of the internationally renowned Heritage Hill Railway have been suspended because of widespread landslides.
Heavy rains have been pounding various parts of Nilgiris and widespread damage to houses has been reported in Kundah, Ketti, Lovedale, and Burliar areas.
The Nilgiri District Collector Innocent Divya, told AIR Correspondent that people have been requested to approach and avail the services of communal shelters wherever widespread damages to houses have been reported.
She also requested people to avoid going out at night time when rains get intensified during the North-East monsoon. (AIR NEWS)
