India to send one more C-17 planeloads of relief material, equipment & personnel to the earthquake-hit Turkiye under Operation Dost .

India will send one more C-17 planeload of relief material, equipment and personnel to the earthquake that hit Turkiye under Operation Dost. Earlier, four such planes with relief materials have already landed in that country. Another C-130 aircraft carrying relief materials landed in Syria for carrying out rescue and relief operations.

Sharing details with media persons about the ongoing operation Dost in Turkiye and Syria, Secretary West Sanjay Verma said that this was the biggest natural disaster to hit Turkiye since 1939 and the government of India received an email from the Turkish side for assistance in this regard.

Talking about Indian citizens in Turkiye, Mr Verma informed that a total of 3 thousand Indian nationals are there. He informed that 10 Indians are stuck in remote parts of affected areas of Turkiye but are safe. He added that however, one Indian, who was on a business visit in Turkiye, is missing and the External Affairs Ministry is in touch with his family and the company in Bengaluru which employed him. He also informed that a control room has been set up in Adana of Turkiye.

Director General National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, Atul Karwal said that one more team of 51 rescuers will depart to Turkiye for rescue operations. He informed that the two teams comprising 101 NDRF personnel are on the ground. Mr Karwal said that more teams of NDRF are also in reserve as the damage is extensive across a very large area and NDRF is prepared to render whatever help India can provide to Turkiye in this time of crisis.
