Durga Puja is round the corner, the grandiose festival which is celebrated in every corner of the country and which also marks the beginning of an auspicious string of festivals. Celebrated to commemorate the dawn of divinity over human aberration, Durga Puja is a major festival in the Eastern part of India, especially West Bengal. For the people of Bengali community it's "feastival" when they are soaked in colours, food, music and the essence of Pujo. Here's why every Bengali waits for this auspicious occasion each year:
1. No repetition of clothes, footwear or accessories
New Day = New Clothes
2. Ashtami witnesses the best dressed male and best dressed female in every pooja pandal
It's time to showcase that year's worth of working out.
3. Every Bengali girl adorns a saree during Durga Puja - even if it means spending a handsome amount for that one saree
4. Day begins at midnight and ends at 6 am
5. Eating, and eating and eating......
6. No need to take permission to stay out the whole night
7. Bhog, shankadhoni, Dhak, dhunichi - every male and female tries their hand
8. Every Bengali boy will wear the traditional dhoti at least for Anjali
They might be the ready made dhotis but who cares as long as you can impress the ladies!
9. You must have the Pandal ID card to flaunt...so that entry gets easy

10. Children count the number of Puja Pandals they hop with their parents - 20, 30, 50....
