Parliamentary Delegation from Israel calls on President Droupadi Murmu

A Parliamentary Delegation from Israel led by the Speaker of Knesset Amir Ohana called on President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

Welcoming the delegation, the President said that over the last 30 years, the diplomatic relations between the two countries have grown into a multidimensional strategic partnership. The President noted that throughout their long history, the Jewish communities in India have maintained and enriched unique heritage and traditions.

The President said that in India, Israel is well known as a key source of expertise in advanced agriculture and water technologies. She said, the collaboration in research and innovation has also boosted the ‘Make in India’ initiative.

The Delegation also called on Vice President and Chairman Rajya Sabha Jagdeep Dhankhar at Parliament House today. Both Mr Dhankhar and Mr Ohana touched upon various dimensions of the bilateral relations including Parliamentary ties and expressed commitment to further strengthen them.

During the interaction with the delegation, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said that terrorism is an area of common concern for India and Israel. He suggested that both democratic countries should deepen cooperation in the fight against terrorism. Mr Birla underlined that the common strategy will give a new direction to the world in the fight against terrorism.

On the occasion, Mr Birla and Mr Ohana signed an MoU for strengthening parliamentary cooperation between the two countries. Mr Birla expressed hope that the MoU will guide the Parliaments to extend, enhance, study, and share the experience of legislative and parliamentary activities. (AIR NEWS)
