PM Modi to address BJP National Convention in New Delhi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the concluding session of the BJP National Convention in New Delhi today. The two-day convention was inaugurated by party President Amit Shah at Ramlila Maidan on Friday.

In the Convention a resolution was passed on the welfare of farmers moved by Union Minister and senior party leader Rajnath Singh.

Highlighting the various initiatives taken by the Narendra Modi government, Mr Singh said, the government makes policies taking into account the need of poor and farmers. He said, a provision of 14 lakh Crore rupees has been made in the budget for strengthening rural economy.

He said,during 2018-19, the government has enhanced the agriculture credit to 11 lakh crore rupees. He said, the Prime Minister has set a target to double the farmer's income by 2022.

A second resolution on welfare of the poor was also passed. The resolution was moved by senior party leader and Union Minister Sushma Swaraj. She said the NDA government's schemes, such as Jan Dhan Yojana and Ujjwala Yojana, are aimed at uplifting the poor and empowering women.

She said, one-third of the population did not have bank accounts when the NDA government came to power.
Ms Swaraj said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi demonstrated his will power to provide bank accounts to this chunk of the population through Jan Dhan Yojana.

Earlier, addressing at the convention BJP President President Amit Shah said, the bill providing 10 per cent reservation in jobs and education to Economically Weaker Sections in general category will benefit crores of youth. He accused the Congress of playing politics over the government's initiatives which have been pending for years.

Seeking another term for BJP-led government at the Centre, the BJP Chief termed the present dispensation as transparent, corruption-free, decisive and sensitive.

He assured the nation that economic offenders, such as Nirav Modi, Mehul Choksi and Vijay Mallya will be brought back to the country to face the law. Mr Shah also said, the party is making efforts so that the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit case in the Supreme Court is resolved swiftly. He accused Congress of obstructing quick resolution of the matter in the apex court.

The Prime Minister, his Cabinet Ministers, BJP Chief Ministers, MPs and senior party leaders were also among those present in the convention. Around 12,000 delegates from across the country are attending the event. (AIR)
