The Preparations are in full swing for the inauguration of the Kartarpur corridor which will connect Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur, Pakistan, with Dera Baba Nanak shrine in Gurdaspur district of Punjab.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Kartarpur corridor on the 8th of next month. The Kartarpur corridor will be opened in November to mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
Talking to reporter, Additional Secretary in Home Ministry Govind Mohan said passport will be the pre-requisite for pilgrims to cross over the border to visit Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur. He said five thousand pilgrims can visit the holy site of the Sikhs every day.
Replying to a question on Pakistan's demand of 20 dollars as service charge from Indian pilgrims, Mr. Mohan said, it is under negotiation and India is trying to convince Pakistan not to levy the charges.
Kartarpur Sahib is located in Pakistan's Narowal district across the Ravi river, about four kilometers from the Dera Baba Nanak shrine. It was established in 1522 by Guru Nanak Dev.
The corridor will facilitate visa-free movement of Indian pilgrims, who will have to just obtain a permit to visit Kartarpur Sahib. (AIR NEWS)
