Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh extends lockdown till June 30 in state

News

Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has extended the lockdown till June 30 in the state, with more relaxations. About opening of the hospitality industry and malls, the Chief Minister said, though experts have advised against it, the state would take into account the central government guidelines for Lockdown 5.0. He made it clear that the extension of the lockdown would be conditional to strict adherence to Covid safety protocols, including physical distancing and wearing of masks.

Chief Minister has also ordered distribution of free masks to the poor. He directed Food & Civil Supplies Minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu to ensure immediate steps for the same. Captain Amarinder said that the threat of Covid is not yet over, and if necessary, he will continue to take tough measures to save the lives of people.

He said non-reporting to health authorities by those returning to the state, especially from abroad, is a big challenge, as it complicated their contact tracing and endangered the lives of others. He revealed that 9,560 of such people have been traced and tested, and some positive cases have been found among these. He appealed to people to report any instance of returnees jumping medical checking by the state government. (AIR)
