Railway decide to stop train movements to cyclone prone districts in Gujarat

Railway authorities have decided to stop passenger train movements to cyclone prone districts in Gujarat from 6 PM today in view of the safety of staff and passengers.

Bhavnagar division, Rajkot division and Ahmedabad division of Western Railways have decided to curtail train movements as a safety measure and to guard the railway assets from possible damage and keep it in working condition for relief and rescue emergency due to Vayu cyclone. Accordingly, no passenger train will originate today from Veraval, Okha, Porbander, Bhuj and Gandhidham railway stations. Special Relief Trains are being planned to rush relief and rescue manpower and material on the call from the state government.

Dahej - Ghogha Ro Ro Ferry service has been suspended for next three days by the sea transport operator due to high current in the sea. Like wise, passenger ferry boat services between Okha port to Bet Dwarka have also been stopped by the Gujarat Maritime Board due to high tide and rough sea conditions.

All commercial flights from Ahmedabad airport to Kandla, Mundra, Bhavnagar, Keshod, Porbander and Diu island have been suspended till further orders. Readiness is being maintained at airports for emergency movements of aircraft and helicopters deployed for relief and rescue operations.

More than 1500 buses of Gujarat State Transport Corporation have been deployed for evacuation of the people from coastal area and special bus service is made available to tourists and pilgrims to leave religious places like Dwarka and Somnath. Hotel and guest house owners are advised to compulsorily check out the guests to ensure their safety. (AIR NEWS)
