SC to hear plea seeking independent SIT probe into Hyderabad Rapits encounter

The Supreme Court will hear two petitions today, seeking an independent SIT probe into the encounter killings of four accused persons in the gang rape-and-murder case of a veterinarian in Telangana.

A bench headed by Chief Justice of India S A Bobde yesterday proposed to appoint a former Supreme Court judge to inquire into the incident. It said the judge, who would inquire into the case, would sit in Delhi.

During the hearing, advocates, Mukul Rohatgi and Krishnakumar Singh, appearing for the Telangana government, said it had followed the directions laid down by the apex court for an enquiry into encounters. They said it had already referred the matter to the state CID.

Telangana police said on Friday that the accused were killed in an exchange of fire with them. The incident took place around 6.30 am when the accused were taken to the site of the offence for the reconstruction of the scene of the crime as part of the investigation. (AIR NEWS)
