In Bihar, several measures are being taken to provide better medical facilities to Encephalitis affected children. A well equipped 17 bed special ICU has been set up at Sri Krishna Medical College Hospital (SKMCH) in Muzaffarpur.

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan ordered to set up the ICU after reviewing the situation in Muzaffarpur and suggested several measures. Surveillance has been maintained by team of doctors in the most affected four blocks of Muzaffarpur.

The adjoining East Champaran district administration has set up a control room to assist ailing children with Acute Encephalitis Syndrome, AES.

Ten deaths have been reported from Champaran region due to AES. So far 98 deaths have been reported from SKMCH and Kejriwal Hospital in Muzaffarpur. Three more casualties have been reported this morning.

120 children are presently undergoing treatment in these two hospitals and condition of nine is said to be critical. In Bihar in view of the severe heatwave, classes have been suspended in all government schools till 22nd of this month. (AIR NEWS)
