Delegations from Iran, Russia and Turkey arrived in Kazakhstan's capital Nur-Sultan today seeking an end to the conflict in Syria. Kazakhstan's foreign ministry confirmed that teams from the three powers as well as negotiators from the Syrian regime and its armed opponents are in the capital.
The ministry said in a statement that talks will take place throughout the day ahead of an expected plenary session tomorrow. United Nations Syria envoy Geir Pedersen would arrive later in the day, the ministry added.
Issues such as the ground situation in the northwestern region of Idlib, prisoner swaps and the distribution of humanitarian aid are expected to be included in negotiations.
Syria's war has killed more than 370,000 people and displaced millions since the conflict began with the repression of anti-government protests in 2011. (AIR NEWS)
