TN: Voters exercise their franchise despite sweltering summer heat

news

In Tamil Nadu, Lok Sabha elections were held for 38 seats and Assembly by-polls were conducted in 22 constituencies. The sweltering summer heat did not stop voters from exercising their franchisee throughout the State.

To ensure hundred per cent voting, awareness banners were displayed at public places like the Kamarajar Salai, Marina Beach, Railway stations, Hospitals and Bus Terminals.

Some restaurants had publicly displayed signboards advising guests to refrain from talking politics and some had appealed to voters to cast their votes and have free lunch at their restaurants after showing the indelible ink on their fingers on the date of the poll to encourage voting.

It was encouraging to talk to daughters who accompanied their parents for the first time to the polling booth to cast their votes for the first time. Boys had come along with their friends and proudly displayed their indelible ink as a mark of responsibility in a democracy.

In some booths, newlywed couples came straight from temples in their wedding attire to the polling booth and exercised their franchise. (AIR NEWS)
