The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up 218 fast track courts to hear rape cases and crimes against children.
The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting today.
Talking to media after the meeting, state law minister Brajesh Pathak said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed concern over crimes against women.
It was decided to set up 144 fast track courts to hear rape cases and 74 POCSO courts for matters related to crimes against children.
For these fast-track courts, 218 posts of additional sessions judges have been created. Besides this, staff posts for the court will also be created. 60 per cent of expenditure on the courts will be borne by the Centre.
The state government will spend 40 per cent. An estimated 63 lakh rupees will be incurred on each of the new fast-track courts. (AIR)
