In Uttar Pradesh, Monson has covered most parts of the eastern area and is expected to reach state capital Lucknow in next 24 hours. Districts in eastern part of state are receiving heavy rainfall from last 24 hours. Maximum downpour recorded in Sultanpur district which was 65.3 millimetres.
Rains gave much needed respite from the scorching heat and at some places like behraich temperature recorded seven degrees below normal. Farmers in eastern UP are now happy with the ample rains; they were earlier worried because of monsoon coming a bit late and delay in paddy sowing.
Due to heavy rains, there are reports of wall collapse and deaths due to lightning. Central and other parts of state are still waiting for monsoon to advance.
