VVIP chopper scam: CBI, ED oppose bail pleas of Christian Michel

The Central Bureau of Investigation and Enforcement Directorate have told the Delhi High Court that Christian Michel, an alleged middleman arrested in connection with the Agusta Westland VVIP chopper scam cases, should not be granted bail. The investigating agencies, in their written submissions opposing the bail pleas of Michel, have contended that he was extradited to India with unprecedented difficulty.

Justice Anu Malhotra listed the matter for further hearing on February 26. The agencies said, Michel has deep nexus with influential and powerful persons and can influence witnesses.

In his plea for regular bail in the corruption case lodged by the CBI, Michel contended that the entire case depends on documentary evidence which has already been collected by the investigation agency and produced before the trial court. Michel, extradited from Dubai, was arrested by the ED on the 22nd of December 2018.

On January 5 last year, he was sent to judicial custody in the ED case. He is also lodged in judicial custody in another case registered by the CBI in connection with the scam. (AIR NEWS)
