World Environment Day: Theme of this year is Air pollution

Today is World Environment Day. The day is observed every year on 5th of June to raise global awareness to take positive environmental action to protect nature and the planet Earth.

Yesterday, Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar launched a people’s campaign #SelfiewithSapling urging all to join and plant a sapling and post the selfie with the sapling on social media. Mr Javadekar along with renowned cricketer Kapil Dev and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff will plant the sapling in the premises of Paryavaran Bhawan today. Several programmes are being organised all over the country to mark the occasion.

President Ram Nath Kovind has said that India is committed to addressing climate change and bequeathing a greener and eco-friendly habitat to our children. In a tweet on World Environment Day, Mr. Kovind said, the country reaffirms its commitment to a cleaner and sustainable planet. He said, living in harmony with nature is a part of the Indian ethos.

On the World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has reiterated the country's commitment to ensure a cleaner planet. In a tweet, Mr. Modi said, our planet and environment is something we all cherish greatly. He said, living in harmony with nature will lead to a better future. (AIR NEWS)
